THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE THERAPY

One complementary treatment that may be offered as part of the rehabilitation process is massage therapy. Our massage therapists will work with our physical therapists to create a massage therapy program for you, if indicated, to help loosen scar tissue, decrease spasm, reduce stress, anxiety, depression and pain. The type of massage therapy we offer are:

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is of great value to many patients with musculoskeletal pain. Swedish massage is what comes to mind when most patients think of massage. The primary goal of Swedish Massage is to relax the entire body. This is usually accomplished by massaging the muscles with long gentle gliding strokes. This not only relaxes muscles, but also increases circulation, decreases muscle toxins, and cancer_rehab_pic.jpg eases muscle tension and increases flexibilty.

The therapists at Palm Beach Aquatics and Physical Therapy are committed to one goal: to help patients to return to the highest level of function and independence an to ensure the patient experiences the best possible quality of life. Many patients have discovered the benefits of massage therapy after trauma to their bodies.

Trigger Point Therapy

A trigger point is a tight area within a muscle that can cause pain in other areas of the body. A trigger point in the neck or upper back, for example, may produced referred pain into the head. A trigger point in your lower back or buttock may produce referred pain into your leg or lower leg. This pain may be sharp, intense, or dull.

Trigger point massage therapy is designed specifically to isolate the source of this referred pain. The result will be a decrease in spasm and pain in the constricted area therefore decreasing and eliminating radiating complaints. This type of therapy also serves as a perfect alternative for patient looking options other than injections therapy or conventional pain management.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is very similar to Swedish Massage but the pressure is deeper and more beneficial for reducing chronic muscle tension. This type of massage focuses on the deeper muscle layers and fascia.
